The
Princess and the PeaThe first time I took Odin to visit my parents' house, I took my down comforter with me, in part to accommodate DinDin's fear of cat hair, but also to give Odin something familiar to sleep on. It seemed to work, so I continued to do the same every time I visited.
But then this summer, in the chaos of moving, I went to their house and forgot the comforter. Mom gave me an old spare bedspread to use. That night, I crawled into the sofa bed and Odin hopped up with me, as usual.
But instead of snuggling up against my leg, he froze with a pained look on his face, as if he had just landed on hot tar. He looked down at the comforter, tapped it gingerly with one paw, and then gave it a sniff. "This," he seemed to say, "is not goose down. This is...could it be?...this is, POLYESTER FIBERFILL!"
And with that he leapt down from the bed, looking over his shoulder at me in horror. I think he briefly contemplated rescuing me from the synthetic fibers, but then decided that I was too far gone and he needed to save himself.
I'm not sure where he slept that night, but the next day we found him taking a nap under the down comforter on Grandma's bed.
The following week, when he stayed at Grandma & DinDin's without me, I did remember to bring the comforter. They spread it over the sofa, where he sat enthroned for the entire week.

And he was finally able to sleep again.
Odin also likes to lie upon a lace pillow, which we must take with us whenever we travel. (Odin's luggage takes up more room in the car than mine.)

Odin's taste for luxury started at an early age. He used to sleep in basket with a blanket and a little pillow for his head,

until one day he discovered the big bed with its down comforter. He never went back,

but he still likes to sleep with his head on a pillow.

And he does NOT wish to be disturbed.
